Well, we made it to rehab today around 12'ish. It's been a VERY long day, to say the least. Jeffrey has been very stir crazy for about two or three day's. Today being the worst. This is the beginning of the hard work for Jeffrey. He will s...tay busy during the day, and have very limited visitation after 4 pm (2 people at a time, in his room) Plus he shares a room with an older gentleman, and we have to have respect for his privacy and quite.....
I appreciate the visits that he has had so far. They have probably meant more to me and you, than they have to Jeffrey. I'm not sure what he remembers at this point, from one moment to the next. He absolutely know pertanant past people places and things.....So that he can stay focused, and not get frustrated, each time someone comes in, and he wants to beg them to carry him home, I am going to ask that we hold off on visitations until he get's home. MAYBE some weekend visits, but absolutely hold off during the week. But please let's just let him adjust for right now.
We have to remember that Jeffrey has a brain injury, and the extent of it, we're not sure. He'll get better. How much better? We're not sure. But we need to give him the best chance to recovery that is possible. On top of having to "adjust" to a new environment, he's also having to make some adjustments on medicines that his body has became accustomed to over the course of the last month. He will be on very little "mind altering" drugs, so that he can participate in rehabilitation of his body. He's got ALOT of hard word ahead of him.
So....that being said.....If you are a member of the family (and you know where you fall in that classification) please continue to show Jeffrey your support, but let's get together somehow and make a "schedule" of sorts, so that we don't wind up having 15 people see him at one time. And let's try to limit the visits to "short" visits. and Straggle the visits, over the course of a day.... I don't mean to hurt ANYONE's feelings in the course of this decision. It's one that I have thought and thought about over and over prior to writing this. Cards are WELCOME!! Address them to Pitt Memorial Hospital --Stantonsburg Road--Greenville, NC c/o Jeffrey Grega - Rehabilition Center Room 430....
If things start to make a complete 360 degree turnaround, I will post that visitation's can again begin to be more liberal. But he just needs time to adjust to his new environment.
Continue praying for him, and for his recovery, and for strength for us, as a family. I have to admit, that today was one of the MOST trying day's so far.....
Thanks, and Love you all
