January 21, 2010

It is a little after 3pm on Thursday 1/21 and the doctor has just given us an update. Jeffrey is out of surgery and will be back to his room shortly. He now has the tracheostomy, the feeding tube and his elbow is fixed and he now has a new... iv that is called a central line and can stay in longer than one in the veins in his arm. Apparently the wrist fracture did not need anything other than the splint that they put the left arm in, but his elbow end did require some screws. The doctor said he did well, no problems. We will see him a little later. The prayers are working, keep 'em coming.

Having been up here for 6 day's now, we have seen families come and families go this week. Each morning we come and put our stuff down, we start looking around to see who is still here. Last night around 8:30, the neurosurgeon came in and had just completed surgery on a 17 year old. They had worked on his back. As we sat huddled around our little corner, he delivered the news that Dustin had came through surgery, but would probably be paralyzed. This is just the beginning of his injuries, he was damaged very badly, they are even going to have to do re constructive surgery on his jaw, and plastic surgery. All because of one act, that changed his life. Him and his newly licensed friend were "racing" and the friend clipped his rear end, sending him off hitting numerous trees in a row, ending, while throwing him around 137 feet. An honor student, scholarships in tow, planning to go to Chowan College, and now this. You just never know what that next moment is going to bring.

Then there has been this other family that came in Tuesday afternoon. She was the second accident that happened in Kinston, withing 24 hours, at the same intersection (channel 7 website) We never had a chance to get close to this family, as Wednesday afternoon/evening, She passed away. She would be 18 tomorrow. But thank the Lord, I got preacher Paul to go talk to this family, because they seemed so distraught. She even came and stooped down at my knees last night, checking on Jeffrey. Unbeknownst to her what her night would eventually end up as. I had even told her about how we were doing Facebook, and had started the Prayer's for Jeffrey Grega group. As of this morning they have started a group for Miranda. (I love Miranda Tyndall)

So in seeing all of this, it really gives you a different perspective on things. When you think you have it so bad, we need to look at our situations, and say, THANK YOU JESUS! That isn't us. Things could be so much worse.

So today, take time out to tell the ones that you love, that you love them. Don't wait. Give um a hug. That's one thing that I can say we have alway's done. Communicated out feelings. Never feeling to proud to just finish the conversation off with an "I Love you".

That's all for now, I'll post more later.
