Responses from January 17th Update

January 17th, 2010

Jeffrey is currently in Pitt Memorial Hospital in ICU. We are waiting for him to be taken down to surgery to repair his femur.

They have him in a "drug induced coma" basically so his body can rest. They DO have a ventilator tube in him, and he isn't currently breathing on his own, but there again, that's so HE won't have to do anything. This will be removed probably in the next couple of day's.

He has a contusion (bruise) on his brain, and has some swelling going on. But he does appear to have motor skills in his right hand side good, but on his left hand side it is a little weak. This is just because of the swelling, and will hopefully improve in the next couple of days or so also. Remember: right side brain injury, left side is affected. (EDIT FROM ORIGINAL POST - Jeffrey's Brain injury is called subarachnoid hemorage and diffuse axonal injury)

There was a period of time when he wrecked and when he was found that we cannot account for. He was possibly alone for around an hour and a half. When he was found, by the grace of God by Pete (Ashley Lockey's husband) he wasn't even sure if Jeffrey was alive, as his vitals were VERY weak. This was caused from his core temperature dropping to around 93 degrees. Everything had slowed down. Again, by the grace of God. As this slowed EVERYTHING down, preparing for hypothermia. Could have possibly saved his life. Normal people aren't out on the road this time of morning, so he wasn't discovered in a safe time frame. He was definitely NOT at the hospital within that GOLDEN HOUR!

As the doctors have put it, he's gonna make it thought THIS one. But rehabilitation will probably be at a MINIMUM of 2 months, in house! We can only take it one day at a time.

Ya'll this is coming from a MOM, and you each have one. So consider these words from her. I don't know what Jeffrey was doing Friday night, can't even speculate, as he is the only one who truly knows. But irregardless, he was OUT at a very unreasonable time of the morning hours. A time when our body calls for normal sleep, not weekend socializing. All I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, is that his Toxicology report came back 100% clean. But he wasn't where he needed to be. If what has happened to Jeffrey this weekend doesn't touch but ONE person, then this message has served it's purpose, and his injuries have not been in vain.

As I find out new progress, I will keep you posted.

Keep him in your prayers, he need's them.

The Beginning of the Journey

I decided to do this blog, as a way to document things, so Jeffrey could come back later and read things. Facebook was my first and foremost way to communicate with everyone, and keep everyone updated on his progress. As the day's went by, I began to wonder was I boring people with my post. But each day, someone, somewhere would ask, when are you going to post an update. I decided to do this blog, to keep everything that I have put on facebook readily available, so it wouldn't become part of my "history" on facebook and scroll off.
